Abstract
:
Working population is vulnerable to mental health problems, especially in a busy urban environment such as Hong Kong. Positive psychology, which nurtures the strengths or positive traits of individuals to buffer negative effects of stressors, has been proven effective in promoting mental well-being among this population internationally, but is not yet recognized locally. This project will build a partnership in the community to develop an innovative web-based positive psychology program that targets working population and adapts to local culture and environment for the first time. Through the project, employees will develop specific individual skills to improve mental health and employers will take a less-stigmatized approach to raise awareness and understanding of mental well-being. As results, we expect to see increasing productivity, improved quality of life, reduced medical costs and strengthened community capacity for mental health promotion. Once developed, the web-based program can be self-sustainable and beneficial to other populations too.
